May was the third of 10 children born to William Henry Adams and Nannie Elizabeth "Lizzie" Carter. After her mother's death following the birth of her 10th child, May assumed a good part of the responsibility of raising her younger siblings. She was industrious and was a dressmaker.

She married twice, first to Joe Wright and had one son Gordon, who was adopted by her second husband Dudley Cozart Dennison with whom she had 5 more children: Mildred, Ora Lee, Lura Mae, Tommy and Lou.

Dennison - Sunday afternoon July 6, 1958 at 4:10 o'clock, at a local infirmary, Mrs. Nannie May Adams Dennison, widow of Dudley C. Dennison, survived by daughters Mrs. Howard Lee, Hendersonville, Tenn., Mrs. Walter Lundelius, Miami, Fla, Mrs. J.R. Lewis, Chattanooga, Tenn., Mrs. J.A. Moore, Nashville; sons Gordon Dennison and Thomas Dennison both of this city; ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, sister: Mrs. C. H. Meriwether; brothers: Thomas Adams and Edward Adams, both of Miami, Fla.

Remains are at Finley, Dorris & Charleton, West End at Twenty-fifth Ave. Funeral from Lockland Baptist Church. Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock conducted by the Rev. James. M Gregg. Members of the T.E.L. Class of Lockeland Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. Active will be: A.C. Dennison, Roscoe Sudbury, Ray Nelms, Roy Gay, Duncan Gay, Buford Jackson; Robert Meriwether, Frank Johnson, Douglas Shelton, Charles C. Buck, Marshall Dennison, and E.C. Holland. Interment at Spring Hill Cemetery
