On 25 February 1952 Walter ws inducted into the United States Army. He served until being honorably discharged on 10 February 1954 as a SP5.
Twenty years after being released from active Military service, on 26 October 1974. Walter met and married Jacqueline Bernice (Case) Stephenson in Thurston County, Washington. Jacqueline was born at Vancouver, Washington on 11 September 1936.
On 21 September 1992, at the age of sixty two, Walter passed away. He was laid to rest in the Washington Veterans Home Cemetery at Retsil, Washington.
