Maxine Hindley Holbrook passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2009. She resided at 1054 East Millbrook Way (1250 South) in Bountiful, Utah at the time of her death.

She was born in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Harold C. Hindley and Bertha Shaw Hindley Cain on October 1, 1916.

Maxine's father was from an outstanding pioneer heritage, and her mother and her family came from Yorkshire, England after joining the LDS Church. Maxine attended East and Davis High Schools and the University of Utah. She learned thrift and appreciation during the Great Depression. She was married to Dell Rampton Holbrook in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by Apostle David O. McKay in June 1937.

When Dell became the youngest LDS Church Bishop, Maxine was the Bishop's wife at age 21. Maxine cherished her membership as a Latter-day Saint. She served as Relief Society President on the Stake Relief Society Board, Counselor in the Stake MIA presidency. She taught the Gospel Doctrine class for 10 years which she loved. Maxine wrote poetry and was appointed by Governor Matheson to serve on the State Council for the Handicapped and Disabled persons.

She and Dell loved dancing. She planned and participated in numerous events with BYU and Bonneville Dance Clubs. Maxine was an interior decorator in the family business, Lakewoods Home Furnishings, where at other times she ran the record department and served as a buyer for home furnishings.

She and Dell were active in several study and dinner groups. They traveled extensively and were charter members of Oakridge Country Club. Her life's work was capped in her long support for her son Craig's handicaps. She invented "mainstreaming" in the public schools before it became public policy. Maxine loved people and had many friends, but her greatest love was her children.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Captain Bernard Cain; husband; sons, Richard and Craig; an unnamed child; and five brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son Stephen Holbrook; grandchildren, Rick Holbrook (Christie), Maurena Grossman (Nate), Mark Holbrook (Nikki), Kristen Holbrook, and Bryan Holbrook, as well as six great-grand-children. She is also survived by her brother Dixon Hindley and sister Elizabeth Reisbeck.
