Poet at the court of Henry VIII. He was fatally wounded at the seige of Mountreuil, France, while saving the life of his famous friend and poet Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey. He was the youngest son of Sir Robert Clere of Ormesby, Norfolk and his wife Alice, and a cousin of Queen Anne Boleyn and Mary Shelton.
