Owen Adrian Lauer ("Adrian") of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 5, 2014 in Sun Lakes, Arizona, at the age of 72. Adrian was born on January 17, 1942, in Evansville, Indiana.
Shortly after graduating from Tell City High School in 1960, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country from 1961 to 1965, spending much of that time in Germany. After his service in the military, Adrian returned to Indiana and married his high school sweetheart, Joan (Kleeman) Lauer, on February 19, 1966. Adrian graduated from the University of Evansville with a B.S, in Business in 1967 and attained his Certified Public Accountancy License in 1968.
Adrian moved from Evansville to Bloomington with his family in 1974 to pursue a career in public accounting. He has maintained his primary residence there until his death. He built a successful and reputable accounting business in Bloomington, which originated as Hathaway & Lauer and later became known as Lauer & Company, P.C., and which flourished for over 25 years. In 2001, he became a managing member and the CFO of Indiana MRI, where he managed imaging centers in Bloomington, Terre Haute and Evansville. Adrian believed the key to professional success was through hard work, dedication and, most importantly, integrity.
Adrian was a wonderful and respected husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed golf, reading, U.S. history, Indiana University football and basketball, and watching his grandchildren participate in athletic events. Adrian probably most enjoyed conversing with and advising family members, friends, employees and clients, whether such advice was fatherly, professional, social or otherwise, and regardless of whether such advice was solicited or unsolicited.
Adrian was preceded in death by his father, Owen Preston Lauer, and his mother, Justine (Hall) Lauer, both life-long residents of Perry County, Indiana. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his wife, Joan; son, Greg Lauer (wife, Heather (Gardner) Lauer) residing in Bloomington, Indiana; his daughters, Kathy Guidry (husband, Richard Guidry), residing in Gilbert Arizona, and Christa Acamovic (husband, David Acamovic, Jr.) residing in Chandler, Arizona; his six grandchildren, Owen, Ozzie and Cailyn Lauer (all residing in Bloomington) and Seja, Max and Niko Acamovic (all residing in Chandler, Arizona); his sister, Sharon Hamilton (husband, Jim Hamilton) residing in Evansville, Indiana; many friends and extended family members as well as his beloved dog, Rozy.
A celebration of Adrian's life will take place on Monday, July 21, 2014, where friends and family may visit from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Bloomington Country Club, located at 3000 S. Rogers Street in Bloomington, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to People & Animal Learning Services Inc. ("PALS") of Bloomington, Indiana, or the Monroe County or Indiana Humane Society.
