Followeing high school, Lawrence farmed with his mother and then joined the Navy. During his military service, he was in attendence at one of the first nuclear bomb tests. After discharge from the Navy, Lawrence returned home to farm with his brother and mother. Louisa retired in 1950.
Lawrence married Ruth Gramstad on November 12, 1950. Their children included Laurel, Michael, and Lynn. The family moved from the farm in 1966, to Leonard, ND.
His grandchildren included Heidi, Jon, and Karl.
Great grandchildren include, Aiden, Lillian, Lidia, Lincoln, Norah, and Liam.
In 1974, Mike joined the family farm operation. Lawrence was involved in an automobile accident in 1975 which kept him out of work for a year. He then continued farming until 1988.
Lawrence was a member of the township board and officer for 18 years, served on the Leonard School Board for 15 years, St. Peter's Lutherana Church Board for 6 years, ASC for 21 years, was a member of the Leonard Lions, President of the Leonard Development Board, and he was the assessor for 2 townships.
