Another Leedey Pioneer Passes Tuesday Noon
Mrs. W. F. Barten's Rites Held Here in School Auditorium
Funeral services were held here at 3 p.m. Thursday for one of Leedey's oldest citizens, both from the standpoint of age and residence. Mrs. W. F. (Rebecca) Barten died at noon Tuesday in an Elk City nursing home at the age of 92 after being a resident here since before the turn of the century.
The services were in the Leedey school auditorium, with Horace Magness, an Oklahoma City Church of Christ minister, in charge. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery.
Mrs. Barten and her husband were among the early settlers in the Leedey area, homesteading a few miles southwest of Leedey in 1899, where they reared most of their children. Mr. Barten died in 1918.
Surviving children include R. E. Barten, W. T. Barten and Mrs. Georgia Steele, all of Elk City; Mrs. E. F. Graybill, Mrs. Orval Walton, W. B. Barten and Alfred (Jim) Barten, all of Leedey; Mrs. E. F. Harms of Perry and Mrs. Christina Thompson of Edmond. She also leaves 26 grandchilden, 53 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

OBITUARY
Rebecca Morinda Arney was born to Eli and Lucinda Arney on August 26, 1872 in Audubon, Iowa, and passed from this life at Elk City, Okla., on April 27, 1965. She was 92 years, 8 months, 1 day of age.
She was united in marriage to William F. Barten on April 7, 1894 at Audubon, the town of her birth. Mr. and Mrs. Barten moved to Oklahoma in 1899 and homesteaded southwest of Leedey. To this union nine children were born; four sons, William B., and Alfred I. Barten of Leedey, and Richard E. and Welford T. Barten of Elk City; five daughters, Annetah Harms of Perry, Okla., Christena Thompson of Guthrie, Okla., Georgia Steele of Elk City and Zona Gale Walton of Leedey.
Funeral services were held at the Leedey school auditorium at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 29, with Bro. Horace Magness, Oklahoma City Church of Christ minister, in charge. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery.
Mrs. Barten leaves to cherish her memory, in addition to her children and their husbands and wives, 26 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, one great grandchild, a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her four brothers: Garrey Weston, and Alfred, Emery and Cal Arney, and her four sisters: Bell Sauter, Laura McMurphy, Stella Sauter, and Mattie Lee.
Mrs. Barten was a member of the Church of Christ and lived a faithful Christian life.
