Christian was the first child of John and Martha McBroom Bever. He married twice, first on 28 Nov 1866 in Edgar County, Illinois, to Alice Curl, mother of two infants, Leon (1868) and a second unnamed infant (1869). Alice died 24 Jun 1869.

Christian's second marriage was to Mary Catharine Curtis, 8 May 1870 in Montgomery County, Indiana. They had five children.
