He retired from Bell South Telephone Co. and farmed and was known for producing pumpkins and eggs.
He was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church, formerly a member of the Lions Club and a former director of the Federal Land Bank.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Lou Hendrick Crowder; and a grandson, Brett Bankhead.
