Her maiden name appears to be Reis, but many of her siblings appear to use the Rice spelling for their surname. It is unclear, which Catharine actually used.
This came to me after I wrote the above: Original family name was Reiss; they quickly Anglicized to Rice, certainly by 1780. [Courtesy of Steve Rice, 8th generation descendant of her father, Zachariah.]
