Served as commissary sergeant for Co. F, 3rd Michigan Cavalry. Enlisted at the age of 27 as a private on Sept. 7, 1861. Mustered out on Oct. 12, 1861. Re-enlisted and promoted to Cpl on Jan. 19, 1864. Appointed Commissary Sgt on Apr. 14, 1865; mustered out as a veteran on Feb. 12, 1866.
