Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the residence for J. W. Purdom, 78 years old, who died at his home on the Mackville road at 8:30 o'clock Friday morning, May 31, 1935. Mr. Purdom had suffered for some time from an organic heart disease but death was attributed to influenza. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. G. Whitcomb Ellers, assisted by the Rev. T. Hassell Bowen. Burial was in the Deep Creek cemetery.
A member of the Deep Creek Baptist church, and a son of William Purdom, retired farmer, and Mary Russell Purdom, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary E. Lester Purdom; one daughter, Mrs. Newton Bradley; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Elliott and Mrs. John S. Watts, and six grandchildren, all of Mercer county.
Pall bearers were J. T. Cloyd, Patty Watts, Robert L. Purdom, William B. Purdom, W. J. Horn and W. T. Bottoms.
