Ann J. (Kanas) Cibik, 83, of Lower Burrell, formerly of Allegheny Township, went to be with the Lord Monday, April 13, 2009, in the Alle-Kiski Medical Center, Natrona Heights. She died peacefully in her sleep. She was born March 7, 1926, in West Leechburg, the daughter of the late Steve and Justina (Obliwaniuk) Kanas. She graduated from Leechburg High School in 1944. She was a homemaker and previously lived in Allegheny Township for 46 years prior to moving to Lower Burrell. She worked on the election board for years while in Allegheny Township. She was judge of elections for several terms and was a Democratic committee woman. She enjoyed canning, cooking and baking and especially enjoyed sharing her goodies with family and friends. Ann loved watching and feeding birds. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards with her family. She also enjoyed playing the lottery. She also enjoyed giving little gifts to others, sometimes in the form of kind words, encouragements or compliments. Other times she packed in humor, making people laugh or being of genuine helpfulness. She made friends wherever she went, always smiling and thinking of others before herself. She was a member of Christ the King Parish in Leechburg. She was preceded in death by her father in 1951; her mother in 1980; her sister, Mary Jo, in 1991; and brothers, John Kanas, in 1959, and Steve Kanas, in 2001. She was married Aug. 11, 1951, to Michael P. Cibik for 54 and a half years before he died on Feb. 7, 2006. She is survived by her loving children, Michael P. (Carol) Cibik Jr., of Baldwinsville, N.Y., and her daughter, Cynthia M. "Cyndee" Cibik, with whom she made her home. She leaves behind other family members, her dearest sister-in-law, Dorothy (Steve) Cibik, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Betty (Steve) Kanas, of Parks Township; and several nieces and nephews and many loving and special friends. Ann enjoyed life to its fullest and was a very caring, generous and a true friend to all those who were a part of her life and whose lives she dearly touched. Friends will be welcomed by her family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in CLAWSONS, Leechburg, where parting prayers of transfer will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, followed by a Christian Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Christ The King Parish. Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev. Joseph V. Trupkovich. Interment will be made in St. Catherine Cemetery, Gilpin Township.
