Francis Eugene "Gene" Shelton

Francis Eugene "Gene" Shelton, 75, Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Shelby County, died Jan. 4 at Leesburg Regional Hospital.

Born on Aug. 2, 1922, in Columbus, he was the son of Archie and Lillian (Stillinger) Shelton.

On Dec. 24, 1940, he married Elizabeth Marie (Morrison) Shelton, and she preceded him in death in 1974. In 1975, he married Velma (Morgan) Shelton, who preceded him in death in 1977.

Mr. Shelton lived in the Fairland area for 20 years before moving to Florida in 1978.

He was a licensed master plumber and belonged to the Local 440 in Indianapolis.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Boggstown Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include four sons, Norm Shelton, Greenwood, Jim Shelton, Martinsville, Jeff Shelton, Flat Rock, and Mike Shelton, Leesburg, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. William (Frances) Johns, Indianapolis, Mrs. William (Shannon) Johnson, Fairland, and Shirley Gray, Fishers; three brothers, Jim Shelton, Cherry Point, N.C., Ken Shelton, Pensacola, Fla., and Doyle "Buddy" Shelton, Colorado Springs, Colo.; five sisters, Mrs. William (Maxine) Sartin, Punta Gorda, Fla., Mrs. John (Ina) Moore, Frankfort, Mrs. Carl (Donna) Bicknell, Brownsburg, Mrs. Ken (Wanda) Woodward, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Jim (Shirley) McLeod, San Francisco; 24 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, three sisters and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 31 at Boggstown Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Melodie Wager officiating. Burial will be in Boggstown Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service Jan. 31 at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
