Evans Bonney was the only child of Enos Bonney and Eliza Evans. Born in 1865, he lost his mother to consumption in 1866 and his father died of melancholia in June of 1869. He was raised in his grandparent's (Sylvanus and Mary Jane Marshall Evans) home in Quitman where his closest supervisor, companion and surrogate mother was his aunt, Alice Evans (Powe). Evans returning this love and affection housed and supported Alice Evans and her husband Dic Powe in their dotage. With out formal education, Evans prospered in his community, married a beautiful morally strong woman (Caroline Tankersley) and they raised six children who became responsible adults and who in turn revered their parents. All surviving grandchildren of Evans Bonney speak to the sweetness in nature and the quiet resiliency of the man.

Evans owned the dry goods store (C.T. Bonney) in Enterprise, MS which had belonged to the Buckley's before him. Afterward, the store was owned by Mr. Willy Bass and then later by Mr. Laurence Buckley.

The Bonney home in west Enterprise on the north side bridge street across from the Johnson home (and Chevrolet dealorship) burned to the ground in the 1960s.
