PURPLE HEART
OBITUARY
Michael Joseph Campbell, 55, of Blanchard passed away alone in his home Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001.
Visitation will be at St. Michael's Church in Remus today from 2 to 9 p.m., with the Rosary and Vigil at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's.
Mike was a devout Catholic, Vietnam veteran and boilermaker. Born in Mt. Pleasant, he was the third of 11 children to Donald and Wanita Campbell. Mike was a charming addition to the family, and early on displayed talent for working with his hands. Building, designing, making and fixing most anything for others as well as his family.
At age 20, he faithfully served his country in the Vietnam war with the First Air Calvary Division. His courageous deeds and sacrifices earned him the Purple Heart as well as other medals of honor.
Returning home, he followed in his father's footsteps and became a long-standing member of the building trades, Boilermakers Local 169. He loved his job, the outdoors, hunting and fishing, but first and foremost he was a family man.
Mike and his wife, Charlotte Myers of Rosebush were married Sept. 15, 1967 at St. Michael's church in Remus, and together they raised three fine sons. His goal was always to make them proud and his greatest pleasure in life was to help others.
He is survived by his three sons, Christopher (Jennifer) Campbell of Sanford, Robert Campbell of Lake Isabella and Aaron Campbell of Mt. Pleasant; also surviving is his mother, Wanita Campbell of Blanchard, and nine brothers and sisters, Gloria (Pat) Fox of Shepherd, Linda (Bill) Cogswell of Lakeview, Lisa (Ed) Wood of Mt. Pleasant, Christine (Jim) Hicks of Mecosta, Claudia (Keith) Sterling of Stanwood, Gary (Nancy) Campbell of Blanchard, Bill (Ann) Campbell of Remus, David (Sharon) Campbell of Blanchard and Paul (Pam) Campbell of Blanchard.
He was preceded in death by his father. Donald Campbell; and one brother, Thomas Campbell.
Another casualty claimed by the Vietnam war
