Shirley Thomson, 75, passed away Friday, November 25, 2011 in Rochester, MN. Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at Valley Church in West Des Moines. Shirley's family will greet friends beginning at 9 a.m. the morning of service. Burial will follow at Red Oak Cemetery near Tipton.

Shirley Ann Thomson, daughter of Claude and Beulah (Kaufman) Kimberling, was born March 3, 1936 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was a graduate of Tipton High School, the University of Northern Iowa, and received her masters in education at the University of Iowa. Shirley was an elementary teacher in the Iowa City Public School System for 30 years.

Shirley enjoyed quilting, playing cards and spending time with her many friends. She was a hospice volunteer, and enjoyed teaching classes on chronic illness to community groups. Shirley attended Valley Church, and was an active member of their Pathfinders group.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roland, and her daughter, Wendy Sue.

Those left to honor Shirley's memory include her daughter, Diane Kay Landry, son-in-law, Gregory Landry, her two grandchildren, Benjamin and Abigail, and her many relatives and friends.

Shirley will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Parkinsons Disease Foundation.
