Robert Loren Bassett, son of Samuel Chipman Bassett 1779 – 1816 and Temperance Loveland 1776 – 1808, was born 29 Aug 1808 in Rutland, Rutland, Vermont married Mary Elizabeth Farlan born 1816 in Athens, Athens, Ohio and died 1866 in Kirksville, Adair, Missouri. They married in 1834 in Ohio. In 1850 they resided in Alexander, Athens, Ohio. In 1860 they made their home in Union, Warren, Iowa. Together they had the following children: Henry Bassett 1839-1918, Edwin Bassett 1845-1924, Samuel C Bassett 1847-1920, Martha Ann Bassett 1850-1894, Mary Elizabeth Bassett 1850-1932, Carrie Bassett born 1853 [twin], Clarence Bassett born 1853 [twin], Robert Loren Bassett 1855-1936, and William T Bassett 1858-1881. After Mary Elizabeth died in early 1866 he married, as his second wife, Mrs. Rebecca Greathouse, a widow. They married on 3 Nov 1866 in Adair, Missouri. (Bio by Charlene Patton)
