Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was mustered in as a Private in Company F, 71st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on July 14, 1861. He served with the unit until he was transferred to Company H, 69th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on June 12, 1864. He was honorably mustered out at an unrecorded date.

On November 29, 182 his wife, Elizabeth Clymer, filed for a US Army Widow's Pension (Application #298910, Certificate #273117).
