Daughter of Colonel Alsey Silvanus Miller and Parmelia King, Mary Francis Miller was born in Gonzales when Texas was still a Republic.

"Mollie" had five children with AJ Nichols: Permelia, Matanna, Zillah, Jack and Hattie. When AJ's sister Mary Scoggins passed away leaving six orphans, Molly and AJ took the youngest of the children in to raise: Lelia and Ethel Scoggins.

When Mollie's daughter Matanna's young husband Marston Cotten tragically died, Mollie and AJ Nichols also raised their grandsons Nick, Joe and Marston Jr.
