YAUPON BEACH - Mr. James Oscar Garner, 76, of Yaupon Beach, died Wednesday night at Columbus County Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. from Antioch Baptist Church by the Rev. Truette Rogers with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the funeral.
Mr. Garner was superintendent of Brunswick Navigation Company for 50 years until his retirement. He was a member, former deacon and Sunday School superintendent of Antioch Baptist Church. He was the son of the late James O. Garner Sr. and Bessie Spencer Garner.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Agnes Pierce Garner of the home; three sons, William H. Garner Sr of Bloomington, Ind., Otis M. Garner of Morgan City, La., and Wesley E. Garner of Southport; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Daniels of Newport. N.C. and Mrs. Ula G. Shaw of Wilmington; one step-son, Franklin S. Pierce of Audubon, N.J.; three step-daughters, Mrs. Ann P. Hawke of Wilmington, Mrs. Lois Williamson of Halisboro and Miss Denise Martin of the home; two bothers, Wallace Garner of Beaufort. N.C., and Fred Garner of Morgan City, La.; one sister, Mrs. Lucy G Lewis of Bolivia; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
