Son of Henry Bell and Mary Allison Miller. Born in Oxford Twp., Delaware Cty., OH.

Stanley's father would not give him consent to join the army during the Civil War. While in Ashley one day in 1863, to see some soldiers depart for the front, and while his father's back was turned, he jumped on the train. He enlisted for three months service in Company C, 85th OVI. At the end of his service he came home for three weeks and re-enlisted in Company H. 174th OVI and served until the end of the war.

Husband of Harriett "Hattie" Watters (daughter of Hosea Watters and Hannah Heverlo). Married April 5, 1868.

Father of Harry, Nellie, Bertha, Lena, Arthur, Clara, Joesph, Mae and Mary Elizabeth.
