Death claimed Mrs. Hannah T. Gorman, widow of Arthur Pue Gorman, former Senator from Maryland at her new and beautiful home, Vermont Avenue and L Street at 7:30 o'clock last night.
The end of this estimable woman, whose husband's career in the United States Senate was one of the most brilliant of all his compeers in that distinguished body had been expected for several days and the members of the family were assembled at her bedside when the summons came. Mrs. Gorman's illness had been of a serious nature for months, the physicians in attendance long ago having informed the family that her recovery was practically impossible.
Slow and Peaceful End
Last Saturday there was a noticeable change for the worse although several weeks previously the family was called to the Washington home in the belief that the end was close at hand. Saturday night and on Sunday it was thought her death was imminent, but she rallied slightly and then began to sink slowly and peacefully. The complete funeral arrangements will be announced today.
Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery by the side of Mrs. Gorman's distinguished husband.
About a year and a half ago Mrs. Gorman moved into the house in which she died. It stands on the southwest corner of Vermont Avenue and L Street and is one of the most attractive in that section of the city. Mrs. Gorman built it for her city home, taking great pride in its construction. It is of red brick and is set off with one of the most attractive and best kept lawns in Washington.

With Mrs. Gorman at the time of her death were all her children, including Arthur P. Gorman, her son and Mrs. Gorman, her five married daughters, their families and her sisters, Mrs. Hendricks and Mrs. Salladay and Mrs. Martiati of Baltimore, a lifelong friend.
Mrs. Gorman's illness began shortly after the death of Senator Gorman on June 4, 1906. A surgical operation was performed last October in the hope of benefiting her condition, but the expected improvement did not occur. Drs. William F.M. Sowers and Sterling Muffin have been in attendance.
Mrs. Gorman was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, 72 years ago, being the daughter of Dr. George P. Donnegan of that city. About 50 years ago she married Major A. Gordon Schwartz, a United States Army officer and later a business man in this city. Major Schwartz died two years after his marriage and three years later the widow became the wife of Arthur Pue Gorman, just previous to his election to the Maryland House of Representatives. [Researcher's note: According to her great-great-granddaughter, mkmcintosh, Alexander Jordan Swartz (1824-1865) was not in the Army, but served as second auditor of the Treasury and was Captain of Company K of the Treasury Guard.
