Funeral services for Melvin Eugene Cox were held on Monday, Jan, 16, 2006 at the LDS Church in Osmond. Burial took place in the Smoot Cemetery.
Melvin died Jan 11, 2006, at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. He was born April 9, 1930 in Fairview, Utah to Orren M. and Nellie Doris Cox. Marvin was the fourth child of 10.
Melvin attended school in Fairview and excelled in sports. He was trained to be an electrician by his father. He served in the United States Navy.
Marvin meet Mary Fay Davis at Hill Air Force Base. They were married May 16, 1953 after his Naval service ended. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on April 20, 1950. To this union five children were born.
Marvin took great pride in his work and supporting his family. His employment moved him and his family several times. Eventually they settled in Star Valley and he took a job at Star Studs Saw Mill.
Shortly after they moved to the Valley, Mary was killed as a result of a car accident. She left five children, including a severely injured 10 week-old son.
July 9, 1966 Marvin married Clara Doris Lancaster in the Idaho Falls Temple. She brought two children with her to the family. A year later, another son joined the family, bringing the grand total to eight children.
Marvin was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Smoot Bishopric, was a Stake Missionary served in the Young Men's organization and was a temple worker.
Marvin also enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, hunting and snowmobiling.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Clara, children, Marvin Kay (Susan) Shauna Fay (Dennis); LuAnn (Mel); David Owen (Lynette); Jerolyn ((Darren); Kendell Bud (Tesha); Keven Eugene (Danielle); Shane M (Loree); 37 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brothers Robert and Dick; sisters, Lois, Diane, Nina and Judy.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary; his parents; grandson, Dustin, daughter-in-law, Judy; brothers Bud and Donald and sister JoAnn.
