Donovan Howard Haroldsen, 93, died May 8, 2009, at Lincoln Court Retirement Center in Idaho Falls.

He was born Sept. 8, 1915, in St. Leon, Idaho, the son of Reuben and Mary Gardner Haroldsen. Don grew up at the family home on St. Leon Road, attended Crowley and Ammon schools and graduated from Ucon High School in 1935.

On Sept. 22, 1937, Don and Vera Cramer were married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

He was employed for many years by Orme Implement Co. in Idaho Falls and by Argonne National Laboratories, from which he retired in 1980. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many positions, including ward clerk and Sunday school superintendent, and he officiated at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

He enjoyed square-dancing and calling, fishing, hunting and camping. He and Vera built their Island Park cabin in 1988 and they enjoyed spending summers there for the next several years.

There has never been a more loving husband, a kind and gentle father, and he was the perfect grandfather.

Survivors include three daughters, Myrna (Lee) Taylor of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Reta (Jim, deceased) Scoresby of Mesa, Ariz., and Lonna (Mark) McGrath of Oskaloosa, Iowa; one son, Lynn (JoAnn) Haroldsen of Meridian, Idaho; one sister, Ann Sipes; three brothers, Wayne Haroldsen, Arlan Haroldsen and Elwyn Haroldsen; 15 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera; sister, Mary Savage; and brother, Jess Haroldsen.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Coltrin Mortuary and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday. Interment will be in Ucon Cemetery.
