John was the husband of Mary Ellen (Rider) Black. Their children were Sarah, Ira O. (fg mem 57959118), Mary, Mandy, Geo. Henry, Cora, Thomas, Julia, Ola, Edgar, Virgil, and Cecil. In 1880 the census shows John and wife Mary living at Spring Hill, Bodcaw township, Hempstead Co., AR. Mary is believed to have died sometime between 1900 and 1910. During the Civil War John Black served in Co. "C", Georgia State Troops, CSA. (Death date is uncertain but is known to be after 1910).
