Son of George Washington & Martha Bell Hull Belk, one of 10 children born of this couple. He married Susan Essie Taylor 8 Nov 1906 in Fayette Co., AL. They had 11 children; Clancy Belle, Anna Lorene, Mildren Gladys, Ruby Nell, Christine, Paul Cliford, Helen Olivia, Aubrey Daniel, Gwyn Aaron, Samuel Grafton & Betty Joe Belk.

SERVICES HELD SUNDAY FOR SAM BELK, 69

Sam Belk age 69, retired cotton ginner and long time resident of Belk died at his home Fri day afternoon at 4 o'clock following a five month illness.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Belk Free Will Baptist Chuch with the Rev McAdams, church pastor officiating assisted by the Rev Royal Griffin of Fayette. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery with Legg Funeral Home of Jasper directing.

Mr Belk, the son of Mr and Mrs George Belk, was a native of Fayette Co., and had lived most of his life in Belk, AL. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by wife, Mrs Essie Belk; three sons, Bogie Belk and Gwen Belk of Belk, AL; Drafton Belk, Birmingham; five daughters, Mrs Ruby Nell Erwin, Lorraine Belk, Mrs Christine Dodson, Mrs Olivia Yerby; and Mrs Betty Joe Wycoff; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Oscar Belk, Darling Belk; two sisters, Miss Effie Belk and Mrs Dora Newman.
