Peter Swanson was born in Norway with the name of Peder Svenson. He came to the United States in 1893.

Obituary: Peter Swanson was born in Flekkefjord, Norway Nov. 3, 1876. In 1893 at the age of 17 he came to America. For several years after his arrival he was employed at the sawmills and in the lumber woods of this region. Later he purchased a farm south east of Benzonia where he has lived for nearly 43 years. On January 4, 1895 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Carrie Jensen of Benzonia. Eight children were born to them, two of whom have passed away. Mrs. Swanson passed away about 22 years ago.
Of his children the following remain to mourn his departure: Mrs. Howard Bucan and Mrs. Gerald Cameron of Muskegon; Mrs. Justus Weygandt and Mr. Swan Swanson of Lansing; and Mr. Gilbert and Miss Martha Swanson of Grand Rapids.
He is also mourned by three brothers, Mr. Emil Swanson of Shelly, Minn., and two brothers living in Norway; also a nephew, Mr. Elert Hastad of Frankfort.
On Saturday, April 12, Mr. Swanson was taken to the Markham Memorial hospital for treatment where he passed away April 19th at 9:00 o'clock in the forenoon. Funeral services were conducted from the Bennett funeral home Monday afternoon at 2:00, Rev. J. C. Johnson officiating. Interment was made in Benzonia Township cemetery.
