Florence Jeanette Wilmot, age 87, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born December 11, 1921, the daughter of Andrew G. and Clara (Skiam) Anderson near Decorah, in Glenwood Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa. She later moved to the Freeport, Iowa area where she attended school. She was confirmed in Decorah Lutheran Church. She worked in Decorah caring for various families that needed her help in times of hardship.
Florence was united in marriage with George Wilmot on September 10, 1940, in Dumont, Iowa, by Rev. Woodley at his parsonage. The couple lived in Decorah, Iowa, for a few months before moving to Clarksville in February, 1941 where they made their home.

Florence was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville where she participated in many church activities. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Clarksville.

Winters were enjoyed in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In her spare time, Florence enjoyed cooking and camping with her family and grandchildren. She was especially appreciative of her village and nursing home friends and caregivers.


Florence died Thursday, May 07, 2009, at Community Nursing Home in Clarksville, Iowa, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, George on April 20, 2002; her parents; three brothers, Clarence, Orval and Leonard Anderson.

Florence is survived by her son, Richard Wilmot, Waverly, Iowa; two grandchildren, Deborah (Ron) Lutz, Sherry Wilmot and one great-grandson, Tanner Speidel, all of Vinton, Iowa; one brother, Rueben (Donna) Anderson; seven sisters; Pearl Davidson, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; Arlene Hogenson, Decorah, Iowa; Louise Vander Sanden, Bristol, Wisconsin; Lorraine (Roger) Holden, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; Ellen (Arlan) Brown, Mabel, Minnesota; Verna (Willard) Hanson, Decorah, Iowa; Gladys (Lawrence) Hageman, Cresco, Iowa; and one sister-in-law, Gloria Anderson, Columbus, Wisconsin.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, at the St. John Lutheran Church with burial in Lynwood Cemetery, both in Clarksville.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville, (319) 278-4245 and continue for one hour before services at the church on Monday.

Memorials may be directed to the family of Florence.
