He was awarded the Purple Heart and was a member of the Order of the Purple Heart. He was Catholic. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Hainer, Parchment, Mich., and Laura Thompson, Paw Paw, Mich.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
