She grew up in Upper Black Eddy and did domestic service as a young woman.
Bertha married John Thomas Ellicott, and they became the parents of five children: John Earl in 1913, Grace Erma in 1916, Emma Charlotte in 1918, Charles Thomas in 1921 and Nelson L. in 1924.
After her marriage, she lived in Phillipsburg, Warren Co., New Jersey, then moved back in with her father in Upper Black Eddy, and then she moved to Spring Mills, Holland Twp., Hunterdon Co., where she lived for the rest of here life.
