James Milton Berry was born in Pettis County, Missouri, near Sedalia, March 17, 1870 and departed this life in the Galloway hospital at Anthony, Dec. 1 1937 at the age of 67 years, 8 months and 16 days.

While only a boy he moved to Kansas with his father in the early 80's settling near Eureka, in Greenwood county, living there 11 years.

He came to Oklahoma in the early part of 1894, and made his home with his father, who had taken a claim 15 1/2 miles northwest of Alva.

He was united in marriage to Nancy Ella Van Dusen, December 1, 1895. To this union nine children were born, four sons and five daughters, all of whom are living except his youngest daughter Opal.

For a time he carried U. S. mail from Alva to Winchester. He then filed on a claim 13 and a half miles northwest of Alva, living there until 1927, then moving his family to Alva where he since resided.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Mrs Opal Berry, four sons, Edward Berry, Capron, Earl Berry, Stillwater, Albert Berry, Alva Ralph Berry Alva; five daughters, Mrs. Mabel Knox, Alva, Mrs. Maude Harrington, Capron Miss Dolly Berry, Alva, Mrs. Ruth Gilbert, Chelan, Wash; one brother Otis Berry, Anthony, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. John Goebel, Hardtner, Kansas; 11 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
