Stephen was the son of Stephen Oliver and Lavinia Beardsley Fairchild. On April 20, 1786, Sandgate, Vermont, Congregational Church he married Mary Polly Hubbel 1762-1818 by James Murdock. They were the parents of seven children:

Stephen III 1801-1877.
Stephen and his father were soldiers in the Revolutionary War and they were both were prisoners.
He died at the age of 52 years.
