Watson married his first wife, Anna Garphelia King in New Jersey in 1865. They had three daughters; Lillian, Lena B., and Anna G., the latter named after her mother who apparently died in childbirth in 1879 (unconfirmed, but Anna died in 1879, the same year as young Anna's birth, and the first and middle names were passed to the child).

Watson's second wife, Cornelia, bore another daughter, Eva D. in 1884.

Watson Allen came to Seattle in 1872 and built a sawmill East of Lake Sammamish. He later worked in various types of construction in the Puget Sound area.

Watson served as a legislator for Washington Territory in the 1881 session. In 1901 he served as a Washington State legislator in the House of Representatives.
