Donald "Bud" Aga 92 died May 4, 2009 in Pensacola, FL
Bud was born February 26, 1917, in Ridgeway, WI to Arthur & Edna Drew. Bud, not only survived weighing less than 2 pounds at birth and having polio but, that he did it during the time of the worst flu pandemic ever.
He lived for a time in Minneapolis, MN before moving to Alexandria, MN. Don completed school through the 9th grade and at 16 he contributed to the MN State Park System as a participant in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). In 1940, he joined the Army and due to a second bout with polio he was honorably discharged in 1943. Bud enjoyed his time in CCC and the Army and loved to tell stories of his adventures to his family.
On June 25, 1950, he married Appy Motzko in Glenwood, MN. They raised 4 children in Alexandria, MN. Bud worked for the Minneapolis Star and Tribune from 1945-1953. He then went to work for the Alexandria school system; during his time of employment his favorite position was driving the school bus. He retired in 1980. In 2003, Don moved to Pensacola, FL where he lived independently until his death.
Bud was a very optimistic person who saw only the best in people. He taught us how to make people laugh and woke each day with a smile and a whistle, He loved to tell stories and everything reminded him of a story. He was an avid fisherman and all though he preferred walleye fishing he would take us Bass and Sun fishing. Of course this provided him with more of his favorite pastime, story telling.
He is survived by his sons, Douglas Aga, of Pensacola, FL and James (Sarah) Aga of Seattle, WA and daughters Jeannie (John) Canavan of Pensacola, FL and Patty (Jim) Spong of Fallbrook, CA, brother Bruce (Audrey) Aga of Alexandria, MN, grandchildren, Darin (Nancy) Thibodeau, Dawn (Clayton) Dobbs, Marianne Spong, Chris Aga, Jayda Spong, Jimmy Spong, Patrick Aga and 6 great grand children and 2 great, great grandchildren.
Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Appy, and brothers Ercel and Roger Aga.
Memorial services were held on Friday, May 22, 2009, 1:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Astrup officiating.
Military Honors were by American Legion Post #87 and VFW Post #936. Inurnment was at St. Mary's Cemetery in Alexandria. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
