Merlin S. Mattern, 60, died at Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital at 4:50 PM yesterday following a seven-month illness.
Born Nov. 13, 1915 in Wabash County, he was the son of Carl and Gladys (Smith) Mattern.
A lifetime resident of the city and county, he was a gasoline bulk agent for Wabash County Farm Bureau Co-Op for 31 years.
He was an active member of St. Matthews United Church of Christ, past deacon of the church and member of Izaak Walton League.
On Aug. 21, 1941, in Wabash, he married Viola Zimpelman, who survives.
