Funeral services for August E. Arvidson were held Dec. 3, 1962 from First Lutheran church, Miltona, Minn., Rev. Maynard Hanson of Miltona officiating. Interment was in Kinkead cemetery, Alexandria. Pallbearers were Roy Barrows, Royal Wagner, Harry Riedel, Theo. Bosen, Max Hartwig, and Wm. Wunderlich.
August Emil Arvidson was born Dec. 1, 1889 in Eastern township, Ottertail County, Minn., the son of Ole and Ellen Arvidson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, attended public schools and grew to manhood in that community. He was united in marriage to Alice Engstrand, who preceded him in death. One daughter, Lucille (Mrs. Rudy Skoglund) of Parkers Prairie was born to Mr. and Mrs. Arvidson.
On Nov. 28, 1920 he was married to Frances Dancel in Alexandria. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Arvidson moved to Miltona, where they owned and operated a restaurant for twenty-three years. In 1943 they purchased lakeshore property on Lake Miltona where they built and operated the Hidden Valley Resort.
Mr. Arvidson passed away Nov. 29, 1962 at his home in Leaf Valley township at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 28 days. Surviving are his wife, Frances; four children: elmira at home; Eldora (Mrs. Roland Hamm) of Minneapolis; Harry of Conrad, Mont.; Ellen (Mrs. Ross Rud) of Hidden Valley Resort, Miltona. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, three sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Cecelia Johnson and Mrs. Harriet Modeen of Minneapolis; Mrs. John Behent (Olga) of Carlos; Nels and George of Miltona; Henry of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mrs. Anna Peterson, and one granddaughter, Susan Hamm.
