Age 82 years. Eldest of 9 children. Lived all of her adult life in Georgetown. Kept house for her unmarried brothers at various times. Margaret was of the generation of women who never married because so many men had been killed in the Civil War. Member of the DAR for some years. She was encouraged in her interest in family history by her aunt Elizabeth Edwards. Mary was the granddaughter of Capt. William Sommerville, a soldier of the Revolution. She was 17 when her brother younger brother Waite ran away to join the Union army. Her cousin John Edwards, a confederate soldier, died from wounds he received at the Battle of Brandy Station in Va. Her uncle John M. Waite was discharged from the Union Army due to deteriorating health. He died in Circleville Ohio in 1863. Two other Sommerville cousins from Virginia were doctors for the confederacy. Many other cousins served on both sides.
