He was born in Saltstown, New York August 6, 1816. He came to Sebewa in 1848 where he engaged in farming until 1874 when he moved to Portland where he has continued to reside ever since. During his residence here he held many positions of trust. He was Justice of the Peace and Director of Schools several terms and always performing any duties devolving upon him with faithfulness in an upright manner with integrity. The funeral services were conducted from his late home in charge of Miss Dunham of Ionia, well known Spiritualist in which faith the deceased had been a firm believer for many years".
