Joseph Alma Day passed away April 7, 2009 at LDS hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 91. Joseph was born March 1st 1918 in Ramah, NM to Joseph & Rebecckah Johnston. He was raised on the family ranch in Ramah. Joseph graduated high school in his home town. He then served his country honorably during WWII in the US Army from 1942-1945.
He married his beloved wife of 60 years, Catharina on April 6, 1945 in Maastricht, Netherlands. While in the Army, he served in Europe under General Simpson. As a chef for General Simpson, he also served the other great Generals, while meetings were held. After his discharge, Joe and his now young family, Catharina & daughter Henrica, returned to his beloved Ramah where he continued to enjoy life on the ranch, nature and all things wholesome. These were "The happiest times of his life".
When the weather and market did not hold strong, he moved himself and his family to Utah County, Utah in 1951. He then began his career at Geneva Steel Works as a laborer. In 1952 Joseph and Catharina welcomed their son, John. While living in Orem & working at the Steel Mill, the simple gentle farmer still won out. He spent all of his extra time working the many farms and orchards in Utah County. His love of nature was alive still. After retirement, he moved to St. George, UT some 19 years ago. He spent as much time as possible with family. He also enjoyed hiking and attending nature & health lectures. Family first, and all things wholesome, was life at its best and he lived it! I have never met anyone that did not love him and say what a sweet man he was. WE LOVE YOU ALWAYS. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Catharina, his parents and a sister, Zella Brokaw.
He is survived by his children, Henrica (Russ) Ostler of St. George, Utah and John (Michele) Day of Manteca, Ca. Five Grandchildren; Toby (Alicyn) Ostler, Tracy Crane, Michael (Julie) Day, Lanette Day and Jennifer Day. Also survived by seven great-grandchildren; Stephen Bennett, Stephenie Bennett, Kylie Crane, Jared Ostler, Kaitlin Ostler, Seth Ostler and Haylie Gamez, as well as many nieces and nephews. Services will be in Manteca CA., on Thursday, April 16, 2009. Interment at St. John Cemetery, Escalon, CA.,
