Born Feb. 23, 1909, in Champaign, Ill., was was a 76 year resident of Redlands and a 1927 graduateof Redlands High School.
She earned her degrees from Whittier University (Broadoaks) in 1930 and from University of Redlands in 1957.
Van Dyke taught more than 35 years in the Redlands Unified School District-at Franklin Elementary School from 1936 to 1939, at McKinley Elementary from 1940 to 1954 and at Kimberly Elementary from 1955 until she retired in 1972. Before teaching in Redlands, she had taught in Ventura and San Bernardino County schools from 1930 to 1933.
Her community involvement included organizing and planning the Redlands-Yucaipa Guidance Clinic and working with Redlands Meals on Wheels, Girl Scouts, Redlands Winter Concert Association and Redlands Community Hospital. She served as regent of the Arrowhead Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution 1982-1984.
She was a past president of the Redlands Teachers Association and member of the California Teachers Association and National Teachers Association.
She was a former member of the Contemporary Club and American Association of University Women and had been a named gift honoree of the Redkands AAUW branch in 1990.
Survivors include a son, Donald F. Van Dyke of Wrightwoo; a daughter, Margaret L. Prior of Fair Oaks; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Hillside Memorial Park. Corner Chapel is in charge of the arragements.
