Michael J. Furrie, 59, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at home after a long battle with cancer.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel. Burial: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home.
Michael was born Sept. 7, 1949, at Carswell Air Force Base. He graduated from Burns Flat High School in Oklahoma. Michael was a volunteer firefighter with the Bedford Fire Department for many years. He was employed by H&M Foods until his health declined. Outside of work Michael was a Master Mason and was a member of Haltom City #1331 AF & AM. He served on the advisory board of Haltom City #308 International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and he was a Grand Cross of Color member. He was a past and present worthy patron of Wedgwood Chapter #756 at the time of his death. His proudest moment was when he had the honor of escorting his wife as Grand Ruth; even though he had to wear a tux.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, retired U.S. Air Force Col. Frank G. Furrie.
Survivors: His wife of 29 years, Sissy; daughter, Charee' Furrie Null and her husband, Jody; granddaughters, Megan and Tatum Null; mother, Mary Furrie and her longtime companion, retired U.S. Air Force Col. Robert Cooper; brother, Francis G. "Pat" Furrie; and his best buddy, Pudgy.
