Dr. William W. Blair was born at Bloomington, "Monroe county, Indiana, on August 6, 1827, the son of James and Jane (Neil) Blair, both of whom were natives of South Carolina. On October 7, 1851, Doctor Blair was united in marriage to Margaret Warnock, who was born in Ireland. Mrs. Blair's death occurred January 20, 1887. To their union were born seven children: Hetty, wife of Dr. S. F. Gilmore, of Indianapolis; Isabelle, of Princeton; Marie, also at home; Dr. Frank Blair, who died May I 1, 1907; Neilie, who died October 7, 1886; Archibald W., who died July 17, 1909, and William, resident in Princeton
