JAMES ISLAND - Lanier Eason, born December 15, 1923, in Arden, Delaware, the son of Sidney Lanier Eason of Charleston, S.C. and Caroline Gary Eason of Abbeville, S.C. He was a retired civilian employee of the U.S. Navy, having served as Division Financial Manager, U.S. Navy Publications & Printing Service, Southeast Division. He was educated in the public schools of Charleston and was a 1950 graduate of the University of Virginia. While a cadet at the Citadel, he enlisted in the Army and served with a rifle company of the 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in the Normandy and Northern France Campaigns of 1944. He received the Purple Heart for wounds received during the Northern France Campaign. He was a life member of the University of Virginia Alumni Association, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Association, and was a former member of the Carolina Yacht Club and the James Island Yacht Club. He was an Episcopalian, a member of St. James Episcopal Church and an associate member of the French Huguenot Church of Charleston.

He is survived by one son; Thomas Dotterer Eason and his wife Ann of Charleston, SC; one daughter: Gary Eason Brown and her husband Bob of Charleston, SC; four grandchildren: Dr. Eric August Eason of Atlanta, GA, Natalie Eason Simpson and her husband Marc of Charleston, SC; Sampson Lanier Eason of Charleston, SC and Eleanor Lavinder Eason of Charleston, SC and three great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law: Sharon Starke Eason of Charleston, SC.

He was predeceased by his wife of sixty years: Treva Frances Lavinder Eason and one son: Sidney Lanier Eason, II.

The relatives and friends of Lanier Eason are invited to attend his funeral services Saturday, October 3, 2009 at eleven o'clock in St. James Episcopal Churchyard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 1872 Camp Road, James Island, SC 29412 or to a charity of one's choice.
