OBITUARY

DIED—In Mendon, Monroe co. on the 25th of August 1828, at the house of Moses Angevine, his son, Mr. Anthony Angevine, aged 98 years, he was a soldier in the French war, was in the battle at Crown Point, under the command of Gen. Johnson at the defeat of Abercrombie at Ticonderoga, at the taking of Montreal, and in the expedition against Quebec, likewise he assisted in the Revolution, both with property and services, until the disbanding of the army by Washington. He has left a wife aged 92 years, with whom he lived 72 years; has nine children, the eldest of them 71 years, grandchildren 64, the eldest of them 49 years, but does not know the number of his great grand children, he was a tender husband and an affectionate father and respected by all who knew him.

Obituary reprinted in the Rochester (NY) POST EXPRESS, 17 Jan 1911, almost verbatim from the 1828 Rochester Telegraph.

Angevine Genealogy (1977) by Clyde Angevine, p. 29: Anthony Angevine was born 1730-34 (most say 1834), probably at New Rochelle, Westchester Co, NY, married Esther Burr 23 Dec 1761 at Congressional Church of Redding, Fairfield Co., CT….
He was living at Stratfield, Fairfield Co., CT as early as 1740 with his parents. He served in the French and Indian War and Revolutionary War. It appears that Anthony and family moved from CT to Dutchess Co., NY between Mch 1780 and 1782. In about 1798 he moved to Poultney twp, Rutland Co, VT, where he remained until about 1822. It is believed he and Esther moved to Mendon twp, Monroe Co, NY at the same time as their son William.
The dates and ages in the obituary do not add up, most likely because the eldest five children were all girls. Obit implies Esther was 20 at marriage while dates show her age as 18.
Eldest child Eunice was 65 in 1828.
Died at age 94.
