Obituary

Constance Aline BRYANT MOORE was born April 6, 1921, in Paragould, Greene County, Arkansas, to Thomas Franklin BRYANT and Valrey Iness PARISH BRYANT. She passed from this life to her eternal reward on Monday, April 27, 2009 at Rosewood Adult Care Center in Bakersfield; age 88 years & 22 days.

Constance's parents and her father's brother, Earnest, with her 3 sisters (Pauline, Helen, Doris) moved from Arkansas to Taft, California, in August of 1929.

The trip was made in a Model-T Ford that carried the whole family and all they owned. The old car often broke down with the girls running behind to place a rock under the tires to prevent the car from rolling backward on steep grades. Constance's aunt, Katie Elizabeth BRYANT BERRYMAN, invited them into her small home in Taft while jobs were found in the oilfields.

As a young girl, Constance was invited to the Taft Church of the Nazarene where she accepted Christ and started a life-long walk with her Saviour and church. Her faith never waivered.

In the early 1940's Constance contracted tuberculosis and was sent to Stony Brook Retreat (TB Hospital) in Keene, California. While a patient there she met her husband, Arthur Allen MOORE Jr. They were married in Taft Church of the Nazarene on April 18, 1943, by Rev. D. C. McKisson.

Their only son, Arthur "Art" Allen MOORE III, was born in Bakersfield (Oildale) on March 4, 1947. Their only daughter, Norma Louise MOORE (UNFRIED) was born February 11, 1951, in Bakersfield.

In 1959, Constance went to work for Brocks Department Store, in downtown Bakersfield, due to her husband being declared legally blind and his inability to continue his work in the production department at Richfield Oil Company. She worked for Brock's for 18 years.

Constance's life was her family and church. There was no choice. All the family was at church Sunday morning, Sunday evening and Wednesday nights. She was a member of the Bakersfield First Church of the Nazarene for near 60 years. Her God, church and family were the hub around which her life revolved.

She is preceeded in death by her parents, 3 sisters and a brother; her husband who died December 13, 1994; and her daughter who died October 29, 2004. She is survived by her son, Arthur "Art" Allen MOORE of Kennewick WA.; five grandchildren, Cinda Renee MOORE OLSON of Everett, WA; Keith Allen MOORE of Temecula, CA; Ryan Arthur MOORE of San Clemente, CA; Joshua Ryan UNFRIED of Lincoln, CA; Jeremiah Shane UNFRIED of Bakersfield; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Constance was a Godly mother and grandmother who truly believed: "Vita donum dei" - Life is the gift of God. May she be welcomed into the arms of the One whom she lived her life for.

A graveside Memorial Service will take place Thursday, April 30 at 11:00 a.m. with family friend, Rev. Clarence Crites, officiating. Burial will be next to her husband and near her daughter at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Blvd, Bakersfield, CA. Basham Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
