Prominent Republican Leader Dies in Jamestown
Luther S. Lakin, 49 years old, who has been prominent in Republican politics for the past twenty-five years, and a leader in Chautauqua county politics, died at midnight Tuesday at his home in Jamestown, after a brief illness. Mr. Lakin was injured in an automobile accident November 27th, receiving injuries about the head. Several days ago erysipelas set in, but his condition was not regarded as critical until Monday. Mr. Lakin was a lifelong resident of Jamestown, where he attended school, later going to the University of Buffalo and the Albany Law School.

Many Prominent County and Former County Officials
Present At Funeral Services.

Jamestown, Dec. 15 -- Funeral services for Luther S. Lakin, former Chautauqua county clerk were held at his home in Fairmount avenue, yesterday afternoon, the Rev. Dr. Amos Maywood, pastor of the First Methodist church officiating. Many were in attendance including a large group of present and former county officials.
The pallbearers were Federal Commissioner Edward R. Bootey, Surrogate Warner S. Rexford, former Postmaster Augustus F. Allen, Archie Cotter, former State Senator Samuel J. Fowler, Walter Shaw, John Winsor and former District Attorney William S. Stearns.
Among those in attendance were:
Mr. and Mrs. John Leo Sullivan and
Fred H. Farnum of Dunkirk, and
Henry Card, Postmaster Clinton H.
Card and Albert Foley of Fredonia.
