Oscar John Johnson was born in Winthrop on June 21, 1899. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Winthrop. In 1914 he moved with his parents to North Branch. Several years later he joined the Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch and remained a member thereof until his death.
October 4, 1922, he was united in marriage to Alice Means of North Branch. To this union seven children were born; four sons: James and Lloyd of North Branch and Roger and Garry of St.Paul; three daughters: Florence La Plante of St.Paul, Betty Jo Heilig of North Branch and Lois, who died at the age of 1 & 1/2 years. They have 30 grandchildren.
Mr. Johnson passed away Sunday morning, May 12, at the age of 68 years, 10 months, and 22 days. Besides the immediate family, he leaves to mourn his departure a half-brother, Carl Collin of Turtle Lake, Wis., and two sisters, Amy Miller of St.Paul and Agnes Almquist of St.Petersburg, Fla.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 15, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch. Pastor Milton Gunberg officiated and preached the sermon. Mrs. Elmer Olson sang two appropriate hymns, accompanied by the organist, Mrs.Leon Ekstrom. Six of Mr.Johnson's nephews served as bearers. Interment was in the Trinity Lutheran Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Melvin Erickson of St.Paul, Don Erickson of North Branch, Gerald Erickson of St.Paul, Marvin Johnson, Donald Johnson of Litchfield, and Theodore Groves of Virginia.
