Ann, as she was known to go by, was born on February 14, 1836, in DeKalb, Alabama. She married Thomas Austin Patrick, Jr. on October 1, 1854, in her hometown. She was 18. They had at least 9 children in 20 years. She died on January 14, 1882, in Hopkins County, Texas, at the age of 45, and was buried here in the Mt Zion Cemetery. After she died, Thomas married Martha Jane Wilson.
She had most of her children while living in Alabama where her husband also served in the Civil War in Company I of the 10th Infantry. He was wounded and discharged before the war was over.
The Patricks were a tough and practical people, like many at this time & place. Thomas Austin Patrick, Jr. moved to northern Alabama before the Civil War. After the Civil War, that part of Alabama was a harsh and discouraging place to live.
Ann and Thomas traveled by ox cart to East Texas and stayed over in Arkansas for two or three years to let hooves of the oxen grow back; Little Henry Austin, the son who married Minnie Haddox, drove one of the ox carts as a child.
