Eldon was born April 5, 1926 in Ephraim to Paul and Elvira Thomsen Mortensen.

He married Verda Mae Schultz March 23, 1951 in the Manti LDS Temple. Verda Mae died May 3, 2002. He married LuRue Caldwell Nov. 27, 2004, they later divorced.

Eldon grew up in Ephraim and from the age of 13 he would spend his summers in Roosevelt working for his aunt Marion in her store. He served in the U.S. Army as a medic in the 24th US Infantry Division in World War II. After the war he married and moved to Roosevelt to work full time and eventually took over the store. For many years he and Verda Mae owned and operated Marion's Variety. He was well acquainted with a lot of people through his work.

He enjoyed working in his yard and flower gardening, he especially loved roses. He was an ordinance worker in the Vernal Temple.

He was proud to be 100% Danish.

He is survived by children; Christine (Robert) Mathews, Roosevelt; Paula (Ken) Salminen, Craig, Colo, Kevin (Sandra) Mortensen, Vernal, Marisa Mortensen, Roosevelt, Karl (Rebecca) Mortensen, Woods Cross, and Chad (Joan) Mortensen, Roosevelt; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by a brother; Paul Ivan (Jewel) Mortensen; and sister, Carol Marie Mortensen, both Salt Lake City.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brothers; Leo Mortensen, Leland Mortensen; and aunt, Marion Mortensen.

Burial in the Roosevelt Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion Post # 64.
